Why Peru?
A premier mining jurisdiction, and home to Olympic’s flagship asset.
Why We Are Building In Peru
Olympic chose Peru deliberately. Our in-country leadership has decades of Peruvian experience and established relationships across Huancavelica, regional government and the country's regulatory agencies. Pukaqaqa was previously permitted, with an Environmental Impact Assessment approved in 2015.
Peru rewards operators who respect the law, do the work and honour their commitments to the communities who hold the land. That is the operator we are building Olympic to be.
A Global Mining Powerhouse
Peru is the third largest copper producer in the world, supplying roughly a tenth of global supply alongside major volumes of silver, zinc, gold and lead. The central highlands, where Pukaqaqa sits, form part of one of the richest copper belts on Earth.
Foreign investors are treated equally under Peruvian law, with the freedom to convert foreign exchange and move capital and profits out of the country. ProInversión offers Legal Stability Agreements that fix income tax treatment for the life of the agreement. Peru holds trade agreements with Canada, the United States, the European Union, China, Japan and South Korea, and is a member of the Pacific Alliance and the CPTPP.
Canada And Peru
Canada is among the largest investors in Peru's mining sector, and the two countries have had a free trade agreement since 2009. In March 2026 they signed a memorandum of understanding on critical minerals and sustainable mining, covering investment, traceability, decarbonisation technology and closer alignment between regulatory frameworks, under the G7 Critical Minerals Production Alliance.
We are a Canadian company with our flagship in Peru. Stronger ties between the two countries create a better backdrop for companies like ours to invest, build and grow for the long term.
Peru’s Investment Momentum
- Mining investment in Peru reached US$6.22 billion in 2025, a 24 percent increase over 2024.
- Peru’s mining project portfolio holds 68 projects valued at more than US$62 billion, with 84 active exploration projects.
- Minem has announced US$7.6 billion in mining investment scheduled to begin execution in 2026.
- Peru will host the World Mining Congress in 2026, returning to the country for the first time in 52 years.

Peru is also recalibrating its investment promotion framework. In 2025, the government launched a regulatory simplification package of more than 400 measures aimed at reducing administrative friction in sectors including mining, and a new public-private partnerships law was enacted to streamline private investment in infrastructure and resource development.
